Human Trafficking is defined as the illegal trade of human beings for the purposes of commercial sexual exploitation and forced labor.
It affects, all countries, all races, all genders and all socioeconomic statuses.
There is one word that describes what makes someone at risk for human trafficking: vulnerability.
So yes, although it may seem as though many of those caught in human trafficking come from poor backgrounds, it is the vulnerability, which seems to be a by-product of poverty, that leads to higher risk for human trafficking.
Others who are vulnerable include runaways, the abused, foreigners who are unaware of new cultures and many more.
