Clothes for a cause – ending Human Trafficking

What is Integrity

Over the past few weeks, I’ve had to make some, somewhat tough decisions. Decisions that I would rather not have had to make, and in all honesty decisions that no one would have to know I made,  but I made them anyway. Though this all refers to my personal life, I believe this is also very important in business. Every successful business needs to have integrity, but the question of the day is: What exactly is integrity?

By the dictionary definition, integrity is the adherence to moral and ethical principles; honesty.

That sounds all well and good but sometimes integrity can be made to look easy: ‘All you have to do is be honest”. While that is true, to me, what makes integrity, integrity is a bit more than that and it isn’t always easy.

It’s easy to be a person of integrity when there’s not really much on the line, but what about when you seemingly have everything to lose? This is where I define integrity a little further. To me integrity is about being honest in a situation where no one’s watching and where your honesty really doesn’t matter. It is also being honest in a situation where the honest option may look like it could cost you everything. These to me, define integrity.

As small businesses, we go through our ups and downs, but it is refreshing to know that if there is one thing that we need for success not just in our businesses, but in life, it’s our integrity, and that will go a very very long way.
